Hey Kids, Comics! Live #10 - What We Talk About When We Talk About Daredevil

JediCole here.  After a nine month run of Hey Kids, Comics! Live on Deep Ellum on Air, I must inform those who have followed this spin-off series that the following will be the final issue of the live show.  Host and show creator Andrew Farmer has returned to Ohio, making it impossible to maintain a live version of his weekly show from the studio in Dallas, Texas.  Rather than try to turn this show into a different version of the weekly pre-recorded show, with a different or rotating cast, I felt it best to cancel the series and focus on the weekly audio version that has been running for years.  In deference to the amazing run of the live show, a decision was made to give it the best possible send-off rather than abruptly announce its end.  Absent Andrew, I give you the tenth and final issue of Hey Kids,Comics! Live.

Welcome comic book and especially Netflix Daredevil fans to the last issue of the live version of Hey Kids, Comics!  The series may be over but the fun will continue on The JediCole Universe and Deep Ellum on Air none the less!

To conclude the series with a bang, the television epic that was the first season of Daredevil seemed the ideal topic.  Co-host Cole Houston was joined in the studio by Catherine Houston and Clay Houston to engage in a conversation so epic it could not really be contained in the one hour at their disposal.

Daredevil was such a breakaway hit and binge-watching favorite that anticipation is already running rampant for the next season!  With dynamic characters and amazing actors, this was everything the modern super-hero genre needs to be outside of the printed page.  Check out what some instant Daredevil fans had to say about the production, cast, and various nods to the Marvel Universe...

Hey Kids, Comics! Live #9 - Super Geek-Out! Special

Variant "Blank Cover" - Download and Add Your Own Art!
Welcome to the latest edition of Hey Kids, Comics! Live, a very special issue that draws together The JediCole Universe, Midnight Movie Cowboys, and The United States of Geekdom in a way that has not been seen in ages!

On Saturday, May 9, 2015 an opportunity presented itself that Andrew Farmer and Cole Houston could not resist.  Their great friend and co-host of Midnight Movie Cowboys, Stuart Baulk, was visiting Texas all the way from Melbourne, Australia!  To sweeten the pot, his original co-host Hunter Duesing lives in Dallas and was able to join the fun on the show.  Catherine "Mrs. JediCole" Houston naturally joined them in the studios of Deep Ellum on Air as a long-overdue Super Geek-Out was inevitable!  Even Rick Gutierrez managed to join the fun via phone from his vacation in California!

While not strictly a comic book-themed show, this issue of the live edition brought together many a seasoned podcaster along with multiple call-ins geeking out about all kinds of amazing things, mostly comic related.  And of course some great freebies from the Short Box!

Hey Kids, Comics! Live #8 - Home Screen Advantage

Getting things caught up still, the JCU is proud to present the archive of Hey Kids, Comics! Live that aired on Saturday, April 11, 2015.

In what will become a two-part story (crossing over into the pre-recorded Hey Kids, Comics! this Friday), Andrew Farmer and Cole Houston are joined in the studio at Deep Ellum on Air by none other than Eddie Medina of The Rantcor Pit in his first guest appearance on this show!  This issue of the live show is all about the presence of comic book related television shows over the years.  With the critically acclaimed arrival of Daredevil on Netflix, it seems that a Golden Age of cooperation between comics and television has emerged!  Joining the ranks of such current programs as Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Gotham, this new arrival is just the first of many on the way from the streaming services production arm.

Join these three hardcore comic fans as they, and viewers calling in, go all over the map in discussing favorite shows, the possibility of over-saturation of the airwaves, and much more.  One hour was just not enough to cover such a big topic, so expect to hear more in just a few days!

Hey Kids, Comics! Live #7 - To All-Con and Beyond!

It's "live" time again!  Fresh off of a whirlwind weekend at All-Con 2015 (where the JCU had a HUGE presence!) hosts Andrew Farmer and Cole Houston had a lot to share about their experiences a this and other conventions.  But they did not go it alone!  Joining them were DFW area Back to the Future costumer David Martino and Midnight Movie Cowboys co-host Hunter Deusing!

From the ever-popular game shows (by All-Con Games and Theory) to the various panels, costumes, and other memories from the show, if you missed out on All-Con this year, let this episode whet your appetite for 2016!  Learn about our favorite convention from someone who's been involved all eleven years and others who run the gamut from first timers to being practically fixtures of this show!

You can see this month's guest David at the contestant's table!
Join the fun with this special episode of the live show that is the closest you will come to the All-Con experience without actually attending!  The JCU, along with Half-Ass Productions and Games and Theory, is already gearing up for next year with just under a year ahead!  We love this convention and you can discover why when you check out the episode.

Hey Kids, Comics! Live #6 - Who Do You Love?

Happy belated Valentine's Day everybody and welcome to the latest issue of Hey Kids, Comics! Live!  This is our special Valentine's edition as it originally went out live from Deep Ellum on Air on Saturday, February 14, 2015.

This month hosts Andrew Farmer and Cole Houston are joined by their significant others in the first DEoA appearance of both!  Catherine (aka Mrs. JediCole) and Lacey both determined that the show must go on despite being on the romantic holiday and it seemed only natural that they be a part of that show as well.  And what an amazing part indeed!

That is to say, their own fan film festival.

Joined this month by Zach Schrotter of Jedi Goddess Presents (also on DEoA), they take a look at some of their favorite fan films as well as some pretty high production stuff from pros who are obviously huge fans.  While there are far too many such films to include them all, expect some really great choices for discussion (and a few clips) during this great episode.

As a follow-up to Hey Kids, Comics! #106 (the martial arts issue), hosts Andrew Farmer and Cole Houston were happy to have Bobby Blakey (of Whadjathink?) join them in the studio for "Round Two".

The Fate of Hey Kids, Comics! Live #2

It is with sincere apologies that I have to announce that the October issue of Hey Kids, Comics! Live has been postponed by at least two weeks.

Due to a variety of circumstances out of our control, Andrew Farmer and I had to abandon the planned live airing of the episode on Saturday, October 11, 2014 from Deep Ellum On Air.  On behalf of the entire The JediCole Universe crew I extend my apologies for this interruption so early into the new series.  We are working to reschedule for, ideally, October 25, 2014.

Our special guest for this episode will be Bobby Blakey (artist of "You Are Here" as well as master martial artist) who will join us to further explore the martial arts in comics.

Thank you for your understanding,
JediCole

Hey Kids, Comics! Live #1 - Challenge of the Super Fails

Join host Andrew Farmer and his stalwart co-host Cole Houston as they break the fourth wall and explore a brand new world (for Andy, anyway), live streaming!

The latest story arc concludes at last with a final look at some of the worst failures in comics.  Celebrity created comics are discussed as well as the epic failures surrounding Defiant Comics and Tekno Comix.  Plus a look at one of the worst X-Men figures ever (courtesy of Dallas Vintage Toys).
